How to fix 0x800ccc92 error?



The error code 0x800ccc92 is one of the most common error messages that can appear every now and then in Microsoft Outlook Express.  This occurs mostly in the Outlook Express 2000 and later versions only.  This error message occurs if you have actually enabled Post Office Protocol (POP3) to send and receive emails on your Outlook Express.

You can actually send emails without any problems but when you try to receive an email, you will actually start getting this error message and the trouble starts brewing.  You might receive the following error message when you try to request for the email from the server:

“Task pop.emailclient.com - Receiving reported error (0x800CCC92): 'Your e-mail server rejected your login. Verify your user name and password in your account properties. Under Tools, click E-mail accounts. The server responded: -ERR invalid user name or password.

You can actually uninstall or remove Outlook Express and reinstall it to see if it actually solves this issue.

Try deactivating your antivirus and firewall as it might be blocking the incoming mail to your Outlook Express sometimes.  Or alternatively you can change the settings to default in both your antivirus as well as firewall to see whether it has any positive effect on the error message that you are getting.

You can also try deleting your existing account in Outlook Express and re-create the same account again just to check whether it solves the issue or not.

But if still the error code 0x800CCC92 is appearing while receiving an email from your POP3 client, then you can actually delete your existing account permanently from the Outlook Express (but make sure you have actually backed up of all your offline emails if you have any important emails in them) and then create an entirely new account and try, it might just be your lucky day as it might work!

You can also try changing your password to a new one and see whether it works, as there is a possibility that your password might be corrupted.

If all the above solutions for removing the error message 0x800CCC92 fails then the issue is surely with the Exchange Server and not on your computer or the Outlook Express that you use.

The only and final solution that is left to try is to update your Outlook Express to the latest service pack or patch that Microsoft has issued till date.

Microsoft has actually agreed that this error message is appearing due to an issue from their side and their program, in this case Outlook Express.  Hence they have released a patch to solve this issue.  Thus if you update your Outlook Express to the latest service pack or patch you will get a permanent solution to the 0x800CCC92 error.  The same can be downloaded from Microsoft’s support site, just do a search in their site with the above error code.

To avoid such errors being repeated in the future you should always update your Microsoft products to the latest service packs or patches that Microsoft releases every now and then.  You can keep tab of such patches from their support site.  This will not only make sure that such errors will not occur in the future but also makes your computer secure overall.
