Check Viruses

A virus is a disruptive computer program that has been developed and created to damage computer software and hardware functions. Viruses often accompany downloads of music, video, game files or programs from different sites. Viruses are hidden in the content of ill reputed sites, and you may have to run a virus scan every time you visit such a site. Downloads from such sites are forbidden as they may contain viruses, spyware or adware. Spyware and Adware are extreme threat to a computers identity, as they collect confidential information, log your browsing habits and spam your PC with ads and popups.

A computer virus can form cancerous replicas and attach itself to executable files. A virus attack can result in unexpected behavior exhibited by your computer profiles and networks. A virus can lay dormant, without knowledge and attack at the peak of software performance. Dormant viruses are often programmed to execute on a certain date, and are not easily detected.

An outbreak of a computer virus can never be completely eradicated, as anti-viruses often fail to recognize the variant of a virus. This may happen because anti-viruses follow an algorithm created to quarantine. Every virus may have variants and each variant may work independently and differ in behavior. The steps discussed here are general prevention and remedies to protect your PC from a virus attack.

Inactive and Active viruses:
A virus is downloaded in two states: active and inactive (passive). A virus is in an dormancy, when a virus remains hidden in an infected file. In such cases, a virus is in concealed and unlearned. The outbreak can be prevented with the removal of the infected file. When the file is executed by the system, the virus shifts into an active state and begins to perform harmful activities on the system.

Identify the virus:
Once a virus is identified, it can be kept under control. Anti-virus companies often discuss strains of viruses on their websites and explain the removal and disinfect ion of the system.

Among one such popular resource is the Symantec search. The Symantec search provides virus identification according to the symptom experienced by the system. The search also provides a list of actions to be performed, once the virus is detected. However, it is better if you can detect the virus in advance. And also remember that different "symptoms" are shown by the attack of different computer viruses.

Using Anti-virus Software:
Once the virus has been detected and identified, the conventional procedure is to process anti-virus software, run scandisk and disk clean-up the system. The regular update of anti-viruses is a necessity, so that they are able to detect new strains of malicious viruses.

The recently released anti-virus software processes a more a scheduled, periodical, or manual scans on your computer. These options are performed according to preference, and if fully updated, will promptly identify any underground disorder on files of your system. This detection will offer you a wider choice of analyzing, deleting or quarantining the virus. If you are not satisfied with the software, then an immediate removal of the file is the cure, thereby reducing any threat posed to the security of your system.
