Browser Fix
The problems that browsers have can be fixed easily once the problem has been ascertained, though if unaware the browser can be fixed by following one of these methods-
- Upgrading the Browser-
Some web pages have advanced features that are old browsers do not support. So a simple solution to fix this problem is download a new version of Netscape, Internet Explorer and then try to view the page. The updates are free but the files are large so it takes quite a long time download. One way of getting these fixes is to ask your Service Provider for a CD containing these new programs.
- Java Settings
A few sites require that the Java features, and 'javascript' are turned on to be able to have a better display of the content.
- The 'cache'
There is a folder on the computer that stores temporary files of pages that have been viewed. So when the user revisits the sites it continues to load the older version of the pages instead of the new ones. Refreshing the page does not fix this, so setting the cache to clear the history and reload the page.
Some other problems when trying to view page, are seen on the browser it self which can be fixed as well. A few are listed below-
- Error 10060 - Connection timed out/the operation timed out
Trying to connect to a web page using Internet Explorer the above message is seen at times because of no response from the Web server or due to congestion in the link between the user and server. This can be fixed by checking the URL or the web, or try another website and then the original website again. If the problem is faced by all the websites try disconnecting and connecting again. The problem could be fixed by changing the user settings on Internet Explorer. Some sites also do not allow the proxy server servers to connect, so turn off the Web browsers proxy settings.
- Error 400- Bad Request
This is displayed at the bottom of a page, and is caused due to the corruption of a general package. This can be fixed by viewing another website in order to test the server. If the browser displays the same message again, PING tests can be done to check if the sent and receive packets are functioning smoothly. When the results of the PING are checked and if it is OK, then the Internet Explorer cache should be cleared. The browser setting should be set to default and if possible the Internet Explorer repair tool should be used. However, if the PING test is unsuccessful, try to use the fix 'no data transfer'.
- The browser displays Error 401 - Unauthorized, Error 403 - Forbidden, Error 403 - Connection refused by host.
This is also seen when trying to view a web page and the cause of this is because the user is not allowed to access the web page even though it exists. The web page has a username and password feature, or some even have IP restrictions or domain restrictions that can view the web page. This problem can be fixed by contacting the Webmaster of the website or the site admin to check the requirements to get access to the page.
